Gas Safety, Information and Advise
Prevention is better than cure. Getting your gas appliances serviced regularly is essential. Boilers and other appliances­ should be given an annual service by CORGI registered engineers.

If you’re renting, ensure you see a recent certificate. Keep chimneys and vents clear of obstructions, and ­invest in a kite-marked battery-powered CO detector that will sound the alarm even at the lowest levels of carbon monoxide. You can purchase a CO detector from most good DIY stores for around £25, be sure to follow the manufactures fitting instructions enclosed with the CO detector - incorrect fitting or poor location will reduce the effectiveness of the device, if in doubt arrange for a professional to do it for you - don't take risks.

What do do in an Emergency
   


If you smell gas call 0800 111 999 and speak to:

National Grid

The National Grid operates a free 24 hour emergency service whether or not you get your supply from them.  There are 1,500 National Grid emergency engineers.

  • If you are calling from a mobile phone then go outside first.

  • Do NOT Smoke, Do NOT turn light switches on or off and do NOT do anything to create a
    spark.

  • Turn off the supply at the meter. If you do not have to switch on a light to do so, open doors and windows and wait outside for the emergency engineer to arrive.
